

The Philosophical Frontiers Journal is an International Peer Reviewed Academic Publication

Our purpose and aims Below you will find information on house-style, word limits and copyright.
Papers may deal with any aspect of philosophy, broadly construed.
Papers should include
an abstract of not more than 300 words, and should include a list of keywords (for
automated search).
Papers should be between 4,000 and 6,000 words, although occasionally
shorter or longer papers may be considered.
Papers must be processed using Microsoft
Word.
Authors should use Times New Roman 12 font.
The paper should be double spaced.
A
cover sheet should be included detailing the name, contact details and academic affiliation
of the author (if applicable).
The name of the author should not appear on any part
of the essay.
The paper should be emailed to: editor@philosophicalfrontiers.com.
Papers
should not be under consideration by other journals at the time of submission.
Formatting
Guidelines
Footnotes should be used rather than internal notation or endnotes.
References
in footnotes should be listed as follows: name, year, page number (e.g. White (2006),
121).
A List of References (with the header 'References') should be included at the
end of the paper, which only includes books/articles etc. that have been referred
to in the article.
The list of references should be ordered alphabetically and then
chronologically.
The reference list should have the following format:
Books:
Bloggs,
J. (1998). Title. Place, Publishing House.
Chapters/Articles in Books:
Bloggs, J. (1998).
Title of Chapter/Article. In Doh, J. (ed.) (1998). Book Title. Place, Publishing
House, 113-135.
Articles:
Bloggs, J. (1998). Title of Article. Title of Journal, 33,
129-164.
For mutliple articles/books by the same author:
Bloggs, J. (1998). Title of
Article. Title of Journal, 33, 129-164.
_____(1999). Title of Article. Title of Journal,
34, 165-184. (the total number of joined underscores is 5)
Books that have been translated
should be listed as follows:
Bloggs, J. (2000). Title of Book (trans. Doh, J.). Place,
Publishing House.
In all instances, numbers should be used rather than Roman Numerals.
Numbers that designate sections should be followed by a full-stop. Thus: 3. rather
than III. Subsections should be as follows: 3.1.
Quotations may be included in the
main body of a paragraph if the total quotation does not exceed one sentence. If
a quotation exceeds one sentence it should be double indented and separated above
an below by one the space of one line.
Thus:

Main body of paragraph. Main body of paragraph.
The titles of
Sections should be in Times New Roman 14 in bold font.
The titles of Subsections should
be in Times New Roman 12 in bold font.
If accepted for publication, authors may be
asked to reformat their papers if they do not conform to the formatting guidelines.
Prior
to publication, authors will be sent formatted proof copies of their articles/reviews
which must be checked and approved.
Reviewing Procedure
The editorial board will initially
short-list papers for blind review. Papers that are not short-listed will not receive
feedback. The author will be informed of the editorial decision as soon as possible.
Submissions
that are short-listed will receive feedback at the discretion of the editorial board.
The
editors retain the right to make minor alterations to the text.
All papers that are
short-listed will be sent to two suitable referees (the expertise of all referees
has been assessed by the editorial panel). If they are in agreement about the article's
suitability for publication, then their decision will be actioned. If they are in
disagreement, then the paper will be sent to a third reviewer, with the majority
decision being actioned.
Book Reviews
Reviews of books that deal with any area of philosophy
are welcome.
Books reviewed must be of an academic nature, and it should not be more
than three years since the publication date. The editor may also have copies of books
for review. Please click here.
The review may, or may not, be published in the journal
(according to its merits).
Reviews should not be greater than 2,000 words.
Use the
formatting guidelines above with the following exception:
When making reference to
a particular page in the book under review do so as follows:
Joe Bloggs states that

Critical Reviews
The journal publishes critical reviews of papers that have
been accepted for publication by the journal.

being critically reviewed do so as follows:

If a paper
appears in the electronic form of Philosophical Frontiers then it is available for
critical review, and published reviews will appear in the hard and soft editions.
Critical
Reviews should not exceed 3,000 words.
The journal publishes literature reviews of contemporary themes and questions in
philosophy. Literature reviews should not exceed 3,500 words. Use the above formatting
guidelines.
Copyright
Submissions become the copyright of Philosophical Frontiers,
once accepted for publication. Rejected papers remain the copyright of the author.
Proof
Copies
Authors will receive copies of articles that have been formatted for publication
in pdf format only. This is because the journal is primarily intended to be an open
access resource.
